Like many members of the Class of 2024, Myles Savage, a senior finance major at Temple University’s Fox School of Business, had a less-than-ideal introduction to the university environment.
“I was here for three weeks, and I did my best to make my connections, but it was hard,” Savage said.
In the fall of 2020, almost as soon as the San Francisco native had arrived on campus, he was departing. COVID-19 cases began to rise, forcing the university to move to remote instruction.
When Savage returned in the fall of 2021, he came back with a vengeance, determined to make the most of his college experience. As he prepares to graduate and begin his career as an investment banking analyst with Wells Fargo's Real Estate Gaming and Lodging group, it is safe to say he accomplished his mission.

“My Temple Made moment was when I returned to campus during the first semester of my sophomore year,” Savage recalled. “Professor David Wilk took me to my first networking event with the Fox alumni association, and I realized then that Temple had access to all of the opportunities and people that could elevate me to my goals. This was the catalyst that led me to join more student organizations and the beginning of my experience here in Philadelphia. I always dreamed of attending college in this part of the country, and it quickly became clear that Temple was going to give me a perfect introduction to the East Coast.”
This ultimately led to additional opportunities. A consistent theme about Savage’s time at Temple was that when opportunity presented itself, he always said yes.
“The first organization I became involved with was the Temple Real Estate Organization, which is what Professor Wilk introduced me to. After that, I gained a lot of career clarity through joining the Fox Fund, but then it was Temple’s chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants that has developed me to be a leader, to help people who not only look like me but also people who are looking for opportunities. That is also where I met another mentor, Dr. Wayne Williams,” Savage said. “I can call him about anything, whether it’s related to classes or personal issues. He’s always been an ear for me and a wise sounding board.”
With graduation on the horizon, Savage reflects on his time at Temple and is thankful for all he achieved here. He encourages fellow students to take advantage of the many opportunities that this university offers.
“If somebody gives you an opportunity, do your best to make it work,” Savage said. “Don’t be afraid to take on more responsibility or to say yes to something that you might not have experience with. The biggest thing for me was saying yes to every opportunity that came my way.”
